FINALIST IN THE MUSWELLBROOK ART PRIZE
14 - 03 - 2020
Vilna Gates painting Featured in Muswelbrook art prize as a finalist.
The Vilna Gates, a Victorian design gateway that I have been working with for the past year. Embossed on the cover and printed as a frontispiece of the Talmud, I have seen this imagery all my life growing up as a Hassidic Jew. The gates represent the passageway through a world of ‘what you know now' and invites the reader into a world of study and education. I have placed the gates in this Australian highway landscape to depict the environment I find myself in today as a 25 year old male, Australian, agnostic Jew in Sydney.

NOX
10 - 05 - 2019
NOX, Latin for night, is a night sculpture walk around the Randwick Environment Park. Experience the natural environment like never before as artists from UNSW Art & Design transform the park and wetland into an illuminated outdoor art gallery.
For three nights only artworks will be installed around the park to form a leisurely 1.5km loop walk, starting and ending at the Randwick Community Centre.
All artworks on the journey will be powered and lit by renewable energy sources.
The after dark art continues with our new addition – NOX Night Cinema. Students from UNSW School of the Arts and Media will be screening short films and animations which will be on rotation in the auditorium, based around the themes of ecology and sustainability.
After the walk, grab a bean bag and chill out under the starry skies with a drink or gelato from event supporters ArchieRose, as well as our valued local food trucks and the introduction of Gelato Messina.
Come for the art, stay for the fun!
ALL THE ABOVE
05 - 12 - 2018
This project has been supported by Arc @ UNSW Ltd under their 2018 Art & Design Grants scheme and sponsored by Young Henrys!
“And if the tears came to their eyes, as Lola’s at that moment, one was simply at a loss. Grown-up people’s tears were a mystical catastrophe, the sort of tears God sheds over wickedness of mankind. From another point of view, of course, he respected Lola for being so passionate. Mathieu had explained to him that a human being ought to have passions, and Descartes had said so too.” (Jean Paul Sartre in The Age of Reason)
Taking inspiration from Jean Paul Sartre in The Age of Reason, All of the Above: even including adults tears, is an end of year show for a class of third year UNSW Art and Design sculpture, performance, and installation students. While All of the Above refers to our unique and diverse collection of students exhibiting in the show, Adults Tears refers to the retrospective and emotive journey each of our individual artistic practices takes as we mature.
